How Our 14‑Day Test Drive Works

We built the 14‑Day Test Drive so you can see real progress before you decide to continue.

Three simple steps

1: Reserve your child’s weekly spot

Choose the plan that fits your family (small group or 1‑on‑1) and enroll. You will be able to choose your weekly time slot after enrollment.

2: Attend your first two live sessions

Your child joins their first two sessions, starts building skills, and you get to see how they respond to the teacher and the format.

3: Decide after you’ve seen them in action

If you’re not thrilled with your child’s progress after those first two sessions, you can get all your money back

Guarantee at a glance

Just email us at help@readingprograms.org within 48 hours after the end of the second session, AND within 21 days of your original enrollment, and we'll refund 100% of what you've paid, no questions asked.

Letters, Sounds, and Sentences!

Month by month, children learn the building blocks of reading: letter recognition, phonics, and sight words. They begin reading simple stories with confidence and engage in read-alouds that spark thinking and curiosity.

  • The letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make
  • Blending sounds and recognizing sight words to read words and sentences
  • Read-alouds with guided comprehension
1st Grade Image

1st Grade

From sounding out to reading smoothly

Children crack the reading code as they learn new phonics patterns and high frequency sight words. With practice in fun stories, they move from effortful decoding to confident, fluent reading.

  • Long/short vowel, blending, and common sight words
  • Applying skills in decodable stories
  • Guided reading to support comprehension

2nd Grade

From phonics to fluency and meaning

Students master complex spelling patterns and decode longer words. Fluency improves, comprehension deepens, and reading becomes easier and more enjoyable.

  • Decoding longer words (vowel teams, prefixes, suffixes)
  • Fluent, expressive reading
  • Understanding characters, structure, and motivations

Richer Stories, Deeper Thinking

Vocabulary expands and comprehension sharpens as students read richer fiction and nonfiction. They become independent thinkers who understand big ideas.

  • Multisyllabic decoding using prefixes, suffixes, syllables
  • Phrased, fluent reading
  • Identifying main ideas, details, and themes

4th and 5th Grade

From "learning to read" to "reading to learn"

Students tackle longer, more complex texts with growing independence. They master strategies for vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking.

  • Using context and word-solving strategies
  • Fluent, purposeful reading across subjects
  • Summarizing monitoring, and analyzing text

Your Child Will Love Their Tutor, and So Will You!

Celebrate wins

Parents are often worried their child might be bored or intimidated, but after attending just one session, they'll see all of our programs are warm, encouraging, and very low-pressure. We laugh, celebrate small wins, and mistakes are treated as part of learning and not something to be embarrassed about. Since we're not at school, kids feel comfortable being themselves and aren't afraid to earnestly try.

Adapting to fit the student

One of my students struggled with reading out loud and reading fluently. He really tried and put his best effort forward, but he still got tripped up and liked to guess rather than blend the words out. That's really common, especially when kids don't have as much confidence in their abilities. But while I've only been tutoring him for about 5 weeks, he can read sentences fluently, with emotion and proper inflection. I'm so proud of how far he's come and how confident he now feels in his abilities.

Immediate Confidence

Through our immersive lessons, the roots of the Institute of Reading Development grow from mastering phonics patterns and word work. These life-long habits and patterns we teach our students help them to decode unknown vocabulary. With that development, I have seen immediate confidence and love for reading build in my students, setting them on course for expressive and fluent reading.

Tears of Joy

My daughter has only had two sessions of this program and we were doing a lesson from last week's online phonics homework (oops) AND SHE IS READING THE WORDS ON THE SCREEN. Is this real life? I could burst into tears right now. Is this magic? How did this even happen???

This is a Great Program!

This is a great program! I had a reluctant reader who I expected would resist this every step of the way. Instead, he was really engaged and emerged a more motivated, confident and faster reader who feels more confident as he enters middle school. Highly recommend!

Thoughtfully Designed

The reading program was exceptionally well-organized and thoughtfully designed to foster a love for reading in children. Starting with easy-to-read books and gradually introducing more complex ones, including reading and writing activities, was an excellent approach.

Major Breakthroughs

My son had major breakthroughs with reading. He mastered fluency, silent letters, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. He read with expression so clearly you could feel the story come alive. His overall confidence has grown so much. For the past two weeks, he has been reading his chapter books to me instead of asking me to read to him.
